Concept -
From what was seen in this scene it seems to be about the story of a young writer who comes the France and falls in love with the star of the Moulin Rouge night-club, but she has apparently died ad he i left in a depressed state.
Theme -
The film is definitely a musical, this whole scene is being sung, it seems that it could also be a love story because of the mention that his love is dead and the saying 'the greatest thing you'll ever know, i just to love, and be loved in return'.
What Do You See -
The lighting is dark and dull, it is blue, black and just dark colours which don't highlight anything particular. It changes when showing inside the nightclub, the colours are bright, yet not lit to well, and shown all over the place, emphasizing the feeling of chaos.
What Do You Hear -
Not any background sounds, the voices and music are the loudest thing in the scene and they are very deep and sad. The typewriter is the loudest sound effect, by making it so noticeable the viewer can tell that it is important, in this case it's showing that he is a writer and that he is typing the story that he is telling.
What Do You Feel -
It feels very sad and depressing, with the combination of the low colours an voices, but scary at the same time, because of the bright colours being flashed around and the high, evil sounding laughs and at the end the way he says that his love is dead. Then at the very end it changes again and feels light and happy and like the beginning of a new story, when both his voice and the colours become bright and he says it was the center of the Bohemian Revolution!
What Do You Think About That -
It all makes me want to go and watch the whole movie, it shows just the right parts f the story to make me feel nervous and excited, it definitely has a great suspense element.
What Does It Make You wonder -
It really makes me wonder what happened, why is his love dead? What happened after he came to France and started his new life? What's going to happen next?
